Preparing for competetion

There is much more than preparing for competition than simply hitting large quantities of golf balls. Great play starts with thoughtful practice. Having a plan when going to the range is essential.

Simply hitting balls for a hour is not a plan.

To prepare properly for a tournament a golfer must pay respect to all the different areas of the game. Giving the necessary time to each area so that you have the best possible chance of sucess. Perhaps the best way to train and prepare for a competion is practicing like the way the game is played on the course.

Practicing under pressure!
Simulating golf as its played on the course.

Have you ever noticed that you hit the ball better on the driving range than you do on the course? The fact is is that if you hitting balls in quick sucession - 10-12 seconds of each other you have up to a 80 to 90% feeling of the last shot. This of course makes the game easier than it normally is on the course. Many golfers (especially better players) have the ability to match up there mistakes or faults when hitting balls in quick sucession. Letting them believe they are playing better than they really are. How many times do we here golfers complain halfway through a round "I dont understand ive been hitting the ball great on the driving range!"

Lets have a look at the actually differences between actually playing on the course and hitting balls on the driving range. On the driving range we are standing in the same position on level ground with the same club in our hands. Hitting balls in quick sucession with no pressure and a very strong feeling of the last shot and swing. Theres no wonder the world is full of driving range stars! Now lets look at the golf course. The ground is constanly changing from uphill to downhill to sidehill. We are using a different golf clubeverytime. There are longer breaks between shots meaning that we dont have the feeling from the last shot like we do on the range. Theres pressure, and expectations, and then theres the hazards on the course, bunkers, water, out of bounds etc.

It takes discipline to practice properly. If youre interested in practice programs with a combination of all key areas included , please come and see me to ensure you get the most from your practice .

The better you play the more fun you have !
